Yomari (Sweet Dumplings)
Yomari is a traditional Newari sweet dumpling, shaped like a fig or cone, made from rice flour dough and filled with sweet fillings. This delicacy is so beloved that the Newar community celebrates Yomari Punhi, a harvest festival dedicated to this single dish.

Rice flour dough (from ground chaku rice)
Chaku (molasses/jaggery) and sesame seed filling
Khuwa (reduced milk solids) filling
Ghee and cardamom
Green food coloring (traditionally from leaves)
Preparation
How It's Made
Rice flour is mixed with warm water to form a smooth dough. The dough is shaped into a cone, filled with chaku and sesame or khuwa, then closed and steamed for 10-12 minutes. Yomari is traditionally served hot, drizzled with ghee.
