Our Story
About Tapobhumi
Born from a love of the Himalayas and a belief that travel can transform, we create journeys that honour the sacred ground beneath our feet.
Our Beginning
A Love Letter to the Himalayas
The word Tapobhumi(तपोभूमि) translates to “land of spiritual practice” — a name that carries ancient meaning. Nepal has been a tapobhumi for millennia. The Kathmandu Valley was historically a place where sages performed austerities in forest hermitages. The Himalayas have drawn seekers — Buddhist monks, Hindu sadhus, Bon practitioners, Tibetan lamas — for centuries.
We chose this name because it captures what we believe travel should be: a practice that transforms. Not a checklist of sights, but a deepening of perspective. A journey into a land that has been sacred ground for longer than memory holds.
Most Nepal travel websites treat the country as a commodity. International luxury brands include Nepal as one of many destinations. Tapobhumi occupies a third position: the depth of a local specialist with the production quality of a global luxury brand.
We are not a booking engine. We are a cinematic, editorially-driven experience that positions Nepal as a world-class luxury expedition and cultural immersion offering. Every decision — from typography to image selection to the wording of a button — is tested against a single question: does this honour the sacred ground beneath our feet?
Our Ethos
What We Stand For
Four principles guide everything we do, from the first conversation to the final farewell.
Nepal First
We partner with locally-owned lodges, hire and train Nepali guides at fair wages, and contribute to conservation and community projects throughout the country.
Truth in Travel
If a trek is demanding, we say so. If a lodge is comfortable but not luxurious, we describe it accurately. Honest difficulty ratings, realistic altitude information, and genuine seasonal guidance.
Craft Over Scale
Small groups, high guide-to-guest ratios, curated itineraries — every detail refined through decades of Himalayan experience. Quality is our growth strategy.
Knowledge as Service
Our knowledge of Nepal is a public good. We share it freely — comprehensive guides, detailed trekking routes, festival calendars — because an educated traveler is an inspired one.
