Dal Bhat is the national meal of Nepal — a comforting, nourishing combination of lentil soup (dal) and steamed rice (bhat), served with a variety of accompaniments. It is eaten twice daily by most Nepalis and is the fuel that powers trekkers through the Himalayas. How It's Made

The dal is made by boiling lentils with turmeric, garlic, ginger, and cumin seeds, then tempered with ghee and spices. Rice is steamed separately. Vegetables are stir-fried with cumin, coriander, and chili. Everything is served on a large metal platter (thali) with small bowls for each component.
